I’ve found that Battlefield 5 tends to stutter a bit when I play it at 1080p with medium settings – my computer isn’t exactly cutting-edge. I'm running an older i5-4440 processor, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, a GTX 960 graphics card, and a solid-state drive.

Right now, I’m looking to upgrade either my graphics card with a GTX 1660 Super or get a newer i5 processor and motherboard. Considering my current setup, which of those two upgrades would probably do the most to eliminate lag in Battlefield 5?

Honestly, you'd really see a big improvement if you upgraded your computer’s processor and motherboard. But to get the most out of those new Intel components, you'll also need to swap in some memory – they use DDR4 now, and your current system is running DDR3. To give you a better idea of what we can look at, could you tell me roughly how much you’re hoping to spend? Around $250?

Your graphics card should be able to handle Borderlands 3 on Medium settings at around 70 frames per second. I’d suggest looking into upgrading your processor and motherboard, maybe even adding more RAM if you can. If you’re feeling adventurous, a 1650S could be a good option – then you could browse the used market for a compatible motherboard and processor. Ultimately, either way, you’ll be able to play the game consistently at 60 frames per second.

Hey everyone, thanks so much!

@WildCard999

I’m hoping to keep my budget under $350, ideally around $300. I really like your suggestion about upgrading the CPU and motherboard – that would definitely help solve my problem, and next year I’m planning to add a new graphics card so I can play Battlefield 6 really well. If you could recommend some specific products that would be awesome!

“I was looking at a few options, including the AMD Ryzen 3600 with a B450 or B550 motherboard and 16GB of RAM running at 3600MHz, but it ended up being a little pricier than what I was hoping for. Ultimately, the Intel setup just made more sense within my budget.”
