I've experienced this problem with three Acer laptops using LibreOffice and Thunderbird email. The issue appears in both programs, suggesting it's not tied to a specific app. If it isn't a keyboard problem, I'm eager to find a solution! More often this occurs with capital letters, though not consistently. I can type in names like "Mark" or abbreviations such as VA, but the laptop still highlights text before and after the letter, regardless of case. It's really annoying. Any suggestions? Operator Error? How to fix it?

3 different laptops, but the same keyboard is assumed. The keyboard seems broken or dirty. Using the shift key with arrow keys might highlight text. I think you're thinking the glitch is making shift plus some arrow combo work. They're all in the same area. I'd probably just replace it.

In reality, there were three distinct laptop/keyboard sets, encompassing one new keyboard replacement over an 8-year period. No single shared device existed. This lack of unity made the issue more puzzling. The key point remains consistent: all units were Acer laptops running identical software versions, just updated at different times. The recurring issue suggests a possible connection to keyboard responsiveness settings or similar system parameters.

If just these two programs are impacted, a hardware problem is unlikely. Try starting in Safe Mode to check if the issue persists there.

I didn't notice this was listed for laptops. Could it be three Acer models? What if you try a USB keyboard? Only in those two applications?

I think a third-party app or service might be running in the background and causing these problems. If everything works in safe mode, then my guess is right.
