I own a wireless keyboard without a brand name. It's been working fine for a few years, but occasionally it starts skipping and inserting characters. The batteries seem okay. When I check Device Manager, the newest drivers are there and I remove the device then restart, which usually helps temporarily. But after about a month it again causes problems. Any advice on how to avoid this happening again? Thanks.

I own a wireless keyboard without a brand name.
This might already be the main issue. Standard equipment usually lasts a long time or fails suddenly, leaving no warranty or repair support for it.
In the device manager I see the newest keyboard drivers installed; I remove the device and restart, which usually resolves the problem temporarily. But after about a month it starts acting again.
What operating system are you using? Perhaps you should provide your build details in this order:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
RAM:
Storage (SSD/HDD):
GPU:
Power supply:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Also include the age of the power supply, along with its make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
Moved the thread from Components to Computer Peripherals.

You are experiencing intermittent events of extra characters or missing characters from your keyboard, which is 9 years old. Very likely the contacts inside the keyboard are getting dirty, which can cause random short circuits of a key or random poor contacts of a key. This is a hardware issue; it has nothing to do with software (drivers). If you know what you are doing you might be able to open the keyboard case, clean the insides, and re-assemble, and that MIGHT fix it. If you are NOT familiar with these operations, the solution is to buy a new keyboard.

Agreed.
Purchase a new keyboard.
I will include the idea of initially borrowing another functional keyboard for additional testing.
Try the old keyboard on different computers.
Check if skipping or similar actions are related to the keyboard or the computer itself.
If it turns out to be the cause, it’s not harmful to attempt opening and cleaning its case.
Make sure you have a known working keyboard available before proceeding.

Although the rig is nine years old, the keyboard is only a few years new. It's a Nulea keyboard. Clearing the device and restarting, then reinstalling the driver, appears to resolve the problem for a couple of months. This suggests the issue likely isn't hardware-related.

I disagree. The intermittent nature might lead you to think the driver reinstallation was the reason it didn’t occur, but I think it’s more likely due to the intermittent issue from dirty contacts inside the keyboard.

Fair, I’ll switch it up and search for another wireless ergonomic keyboard. I noticed Logitech offers a few options, but there’s a gap in high-quality mechanical keyboards that are both comfortable and durable. I’ll need to keep exploring. Do anyone have recommendations? Or do you think the pricier Logitech models with scissor switches are worth it? Their cheaper ones use membranes. Thanks.

Is wireless necessary?
I notice the benefit for a mouse, but not as much for a keyboard.

Wired performance isn't ideal with my current configuration. My desk includes a keyboard tray, and the cable tends to get twisted, especially when the keyboard is on my lap.
