I just reinstalled Windows 10 from Microsoft onto my Lenovo T5. After a clean install, I didn’t change the M2 HD formatting, but perhaps it should have been done. The issue begins when Windows 10 boots and I can enter the four required numbers in the password field using the “Num Pad,” which then launches Windows as expected. On certain tasks that need numbers, it also functions correctly. However, this is rare—most things require typing letters or symbols. The number pad doesn’t accept any characters in browsers, Word, Excel, or WordPad. If I open Google and press the second key, the history bar updates with each Yahoo visit, but it won’t type “2” or any symbol in the search box. This problem started recently, so I thought a fresh install might help. Could there be an issue with the HD or CPU that a reformat could resolve? Anyone know how to fix this before taking the machine to a repair shop? Someone recommended updating drivers, but I can’t locate them on the Microsoft site.

I just reinstalled Windows 10 on my Lenovo T5 from Microsoft, but I didn’t reformat the M2 HD. Perhaps it wouldn’t matter. It seems like a reset might have been done. If that’s the case, formatting and reinstalling the OS in offline mode would be better, installing drivers manually via the elevated command prompt—right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator. Regarding your prebuilt system, have you tried using the keyboard on another machine to check if the issue is with the keyboard? Are you using the same keyboard mentioned here?

I relocated it since the problem has evolved after a fresh setup. My chosen installation method didn't retain any files at all. I adhered to the steps Titan shared on 4/19/25 for a clean install. I've tested three distinct keyboards and consistently achieved the same outcome. Additionally, I used all three keyboards on my spouse's machine to confirm the number pad functions properly.
