I've experienced frequent Kernel power 41 crashes while gaming since November. These incidents mostly occur during gameplay but also happen when browsing Chrome. Additionally, random memory errors appear in certain titles, causing the game to freeze rather than crashing the system entirely. Here are my system details: CPU – AMD Ryzen 5 1600 with stock cooler; RAM – G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB); Motherboard – ASRock X370 Gaming X (AM4); GPU – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080; Power Supply – EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2, 80+ GOLD 550W; Storage – 500GB Samsung 960 EVO and 1GB Western Digital WDC WD10EALX-759BA1. I've tried relocating RAM, adjusting GPU settings, testing hardware, and stressing CPU and GPU without any crashes. The problem seems more common in fullscreen games with borderless windowed displays. RAM issues with Ryzen can often be resolved by lowering the clock speed to 3000mhz or 2933 instead of 3200. This usually prevents memory crashes. From the Kernal Power logs, this indicates a shutdown failure—such as disconnecting the power cord or an outage—occurred if Windows didn’t close properly. If you’re unsure about your power supply, check what model you have.
My RAM has never reached 3200 since I first assembled the PC. Generally it stays below 2666 and remains stable. Right now it's at 2134, which is what it set to after a crash at higher speeds. The EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2, 80+ GOLD 550w is my main upgrade. I've been dealing with this problem since installing Windows first. I've run the sfc scan several times without any problems.
This problem has been ongoing since I installed this system over six months ago. The symptoms seem to appear and disappear, but they mostly occur when I’m playing games—especially in fullscreen mode. What I’ve tried:
- Ran a system file check (no issues)
- Swapped RAM
- Moved the GPU
- Adjusted pagefile size
- Stress-tested the GPU/CPU (didn’t crash)
- Tested RAM (no issues)
- Checked Event Viewer for errors
The issue mostly happens during gaming, not in normal browsing. On my event viewer, it shows kernel power 41 with minimal activity until recently. I experienced multiple Event 1002 Application Hang errors, some Resource-Exhaustion-Detect events (Event ID 2004), and a few application errors (Event 1000) about 15 minutes before the crash.

It looks like the crash was linked to memory exhaustion, possibly related to RAM. However, after testing, I didn’t see any errors. I suspect a faulty RAM module might be the root cause, but I’m leaning toward a motherboard or GPU issue as well. I’ll let you know what I found and what I’ve tried so we can resolve this quickly.
