It's time to consider upgrading your CPU. I'm thinking about a 10th gen i5 or an LGA 1151 chip. My question is, could a Kaby Lake CPU work with a Coffee Lake motherboard?

I don't recall every Intel socket, but I remember this: 6&7, 8&9, 10&11, 12 will be a new socket / mb. That's all you need to keep in mind when purchasing Intel CPUs and motherboards. AMD AM4 boards: 3XX = 1, 2, 3,4 4XX = 1,2,3,4,5 5XX = 2,3,4,5.

Nope, that won't connect. Skylake/Kabylake fits 100/200 series boards, while Coffeelake works with 300 series ones. They can't be used together.
