I'm setting up a vintage system with an Athlon 64 and just installed a SATA drive, but it isn't showing up. The board you're using is a K8M800-MLVF. Any advice would be welcome.

Sata was a bit unfamiliar at first. You'd need to check the BIOS and confirm Sata is turned on. If it's active but the drive isn't showing up, switch to a different cable or try another Sata device. Some solid-state drives may not work well with older hardware. IDE will likely be the main boot option on this board, otherwise stick with Sata. After installing an OS on an IDE drive, you can add the board's Sata drivers and test if the ports respond.

Thanks! I have an IDE drive running Windows 7, so I'll give it a shot.
