If OP is close to a microcenter, the top choice would be selling the B560 board on eBay for a 12600k with a B660 board (about $20 off for in-store purchase). They list them at much lower prices there (around $230–$250). The high boost frequencies and e-cores make it a solid alternative to the 12400 or 12700 models. Microcenter is currently heavily discounting the 11th generation, so it could still be a good deal. EDIT: The 11600k is priced at $150—perfect for your gaming PC needs.
I put together a 12600KF/B660/3060ti for my BIL and it works perfectly.
I'm located four hours from Tusin, and with current gas prices I can't drive there yet. My dad doesn't want to take me, and the micro center isn't an option. 2. I plan to list the B560 on eBay and Craigslist to find buyers. 3. The 11600k isn't suitable since I work in music production, video editing, game development, and streaming (super busy!). Thanks!
Currently what I'm doing is quite efficient. Modern 6-core processors are impressively quick, likely more than you'd think. Two cores won't have a big impact when they're the least-used ones, especially with prices around $300 for the 11700k and $115 for the 10400f. For video work, renders could be about 30% faster at best if everything is perfectly set up. The rest of your tasks won't notice much difference. We're essentially looking at a final render finishing in 10 minutes instead of 12. This assumes you've spent 2-3 hours editing already, which is a lot. Considering gas prices and my age, even small gains aren't worth tripling the chip cost. All your projects will still export, but they'll just take a bit longer overall. Compared to how long editing actually takes, it doesn't matter much. The suggestion to switch to Alder Lake was mainly because of being close to a microcenter; otherwise, sticking with 10th or 11th gen would be fine.
The issue with the 11th generation chips is that none deliver a real speed boost over the top 10th gen models, and the lack of a clear champion in the 11th lineup is disappointing. I owned a Z590 with a 10900K just before the 11th generation was announced, hoping an upgrade for PCIe4 would come later. It turns out every chip on the list represents some trade-off. If one objectively outperformed all others in every aspect, I’d have made the switch. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
