You're seeing around 915 Mbps now. Using a Gigabit port on your switch is great, but switching to a 2.5 port might not increase speed if you already have two ports. You may need to upgrade to a switch with more ports for better expansion.

Which network connection are you using? Many providers offer extra capacity, so you might see speeds around 1.2gbit on a 1gbit plan. However, it’s usually not worth it unless you need it. A 915mbit connection is just about reaching the gigabit limit.

i have a sfp+ managed zytel switch. a asus router (gigabit), and the cable modem. cable modem goes to the switch via 1gig and then 10gig to the computer and nas, 2.5 to the attic and living room for branch out to other equipment.

The modem supports gigabit speeds, so a 2.5 Mbps connection won’t improve performance. I’d prefer the 915 option since it’s essentially the maximum gigabit with overhead included.

the modem runs at 2.5 while the switch port shows 1. a 4-port 2.5 model could fit your setup, but it's unclear if it's worth the $100 upgrade.

Your main issue is the router's limited bandwidth at just 1GB, with speeds around 915-940Mbps mainly affected by extra data usage.

You should get a 2.5 GHz router. Hmm.

Definitely not worth it for $100 to increase from 915 to 1000.

They shared a 350/300 score and 18/10 met uploads. Their modems support 2GB, so maybe I’ll aim for 1200? I’m not sure… but if I can install it on a 2.5 port once my 10GB works, I’ll test it.

It doesn’t seem worthwhile. Go for a gigabit connection instead. Trying to fit 2.5 won’t be practical as it isn’t widely recognized yet.
