I saw many videos about the new Ryzen 5000 series, especially the 5800X. Some said it’s not worth it, suggesting an 8-core model is better with a 10.7GHz option instead. Why would a non-K version be worse? It might only run a bit slower and use a cooler, while the H410 motherboard could cost less than half of the Z490. As far as I understand, the difference isn’t huge. Thanks for the info about the price and performance!
The H series boards come with additional concerns. Based on speed tests, the 10700 seems too slow relative to the 3700x, making its price seem unjustified. The K in the 10700 provides a notable performance increase even without OC enabled. The 5800x outperforms the non-OC 10700 but comes at a higher cost. This situation helped drive AMD's popularity by offering comparable speed at a much lower price. Personally, I’m torn between choosing the 10700k, 5600x, or sticking with the 3700x. The 5800x seems costly, but I’m unsure why I’d suggest an i7 either. Unless you’re really eager, I think so. These two models don’t really fit together. The strong performance of the 10700 comes from pushing Intel’s power limits to hit turbo speeds. Simply put, you still need a solid motherboard even if it’s not a Z490 for the 10700 to only be marginally slower than an overclocked 10700k. There’s also a point about memory speed (above 3200MHz), since today a 3200MHz kit is almost the cheapest 2x8GB DDR4 set you can find, unless you want even faster RAM. And the cooler matters—if it’s just a slight slowdown, the stock parts won’t be able to keep the CPU cool.
Lowering the memory frequency, such as avoiding the Z490 board to unlock XMP, affects CPU speed. Gamers Nexus tested with an i5-10400, using DDR4-2666 and DDR4-3200, but needed a Z490 board for their official benchmark settings.
I compared these models side by side. From a gaming perspective, the 10700 seems like a strong choice compared to the 10700k, 5600x, and 5800x, particularly if you find it at a great price. The main drawback could be the noisy stock cooler. It also lacks PCIe 4 support, which isn't a big issue for gaming.
it doesn't outperform them in a single-threaded mode, not even close because you can't change the settings. The only reason it's interesting is its ability to fit into a B460, though that also restricts things like RAM speed.
say you receive a non-K for $275, but the 5600x still outperforms everything. the single-core pre-launch estimate was around 5-10% higher between Zen 3 and Comet Lake, yet tuning brings it closer to 25%. there’s no Intel rival in any range near the 5600x, and in lower tiers people are holding out for a cheaper 5600x. intel really underperforms here.
