Hello everyone, I just received an Rx 5600 XT with 6 GB RAM. It’s been acting up a lot lately—fps is fluctuating wildly and usage is inconsistent. When I played games like FH4, RE4 remake, and Spider-Man Remastered, utilization would drop from 99% to almost zero, then jump back up. FPS would swing between 60 and 20. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? My setup includes a Pentium Gold CPU, Gigabyte RX5600 XT, 12 GB RAM, Gigabyte H310M motherboard, Thermaltake SMART BM2 550W power supply, a 1TB Toshiba HDD.

From the specs it looks like the CPU is limiting the GPU performance, the RAM isn’t optimal, and there’s no SSD available. As someone who used the same CPU before, I’d stick to a GTX 1060 max—roughly 40% slower than the 5600XT. The dual-channel setup isn’t being used, which hurts performance significantly, and some games don’t run well on an SSD either.

It might be a bottleneck issue, but the drop from 99% to 0% utilization seems unusual. You’re hoping for steady 30 FPS, yet performance is inconsistent. It could involve factors beyond just the CPU.

RAM seems to be the main concern. It isn't using dual channel because the capacity varies, probably affecting speed and latency as well. Stuttering might result from several factors.

It's a noticeable and strong CPU limitation. RAM likely won't be the main issue in this case.

I thought limiting the flow would maintain a stable GPU usage, around 60%. But it didn’t work that way—it just changed unpredictably. I’m trying to find out what’s going on. I purchased the GPU second-hand and want to check if there’s an issue with it. I’m concerned about this.

Certainly! If you replace your CPU, the stutters should disappear.

Based on the CPU model and having an additional RAM stick, it’s not limited to single-channel configurations. There are only two CPUs compatible with your socket, but both are quite costly for their performance. The i7-8700K and i9-9900K both require effective cooling solutions. The 8700 costs around $100 and is straightforward to upgrade with a quicker CPU later. It runs at a decent pace but feels sluggish over time. The 9900K offers superior performance but doubles the expense, demands a powerful cooler, and for that price you could also invest in a better CPU and motherboard—like a Ryzen 5600 for enhanced gaming.

I understand. I’ll need to switch to the full team red now. The upcoming upgrade should be a Ryzen 5 5600. That should resolve the problem, right?
