Hi, I tried to access the boot menu on my M1 Mac, but the usual method caused a forced shutdown. Now I need another way since I don’t want to install any updates through paid sources.

Shut it down completely, let it settle, then press the power button until the "continue holding for startup options" appears.

Pressing the Power Button with Touch ID will trigger an immediate shutdown regardless of the Mac's current boot state.

It checks for an active state and only initiates shutdown when necessary.

It switches on and then shuts off right away. That behavior should have been described more precisely from the beginning. I wouldn't treat it as a 'power-off' state.

When I activate it and keep the button pressed, the system halts the startup and cuts power. It only happens when you maintain the pressure. Looks straightforward.

It seems the device isn't responding properly. You should keep pressing the button without releasing it and see if it powers on. The Apple logo should appear, but it might not say "keep holding for startup options." I checked version 14.4.1 and everything functions correctly here. If it doesn’t start, you’ll need to download updates to try and resolve the issue. It’s unusual since other reports suggest problems only occur if the OS is completely corrupted. If you manage to boot, there’s a chance an update will help. If not, you may need a backup Mac or professional assistance from an Apple Store.
