Man, it's been a long time. Futuremark forums; 9800 Pro was the top choice. Cathode ray tubs were used for lighting. A side panel on your PC meant investing in a Dremel setup. Anything other than beige meant a can or two of spray paint and some creativity.
These experiences guided me toward becoming a datacenter gangster / cloud engineer (system design, rack & stack, integration). Working with complex systems at work eventually made me want something simple at home, aka a console. I’m a gamer through and through—so much so that I have an entire room dedicated to it. My daily driver has been a PS5 because being a systems guy for the last 30 years, well I just didn’t want the hassle (and expense) at home... until the network guys at the office started to complain. "lol PS5" "PS5 doesn’t have games" "NVIDIA rulesz". And my favorite—being called "a systems guy without a system".
This holiday season I’m coming out of retirement and back into the PCMR.
I still think I should have gone with the 9950X3D, but the internet was loud. Was the 7800X3D the right choice?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer! So, this holiday season I am coming out of retirement and rejoining the PCMR. I still think I should have gone with the 9950X3D, but the internet as a whole yelled at me. Was the 7800X3D the right call? Users are advised to stylize their threads with info asked of in this thread; *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice First off, respect where respect is due - this is an adaptation of the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky. I created this because there's a lot of posts nowadays asking for upgrade advice both on here and on the CPU forums, and I feel... forums. which helps lend some context into your predicament which in turn helps the community chime in with worthwhile suggestions.
