Well, it seems you're essentially agreeing with my point about upgrading the GPU, then the CPU's MB and RAM, and so on. In that scenario, my suggestions remain valid since the i5 is a solid CPU (unless you're working on intensive tasks like heavy video editing or rendering). Also, having 2x4 should be sufficient until you transition to DDR4. It would be wise to check your current RAM as well.

It seems you're essentially confirming the approach I suggested, focusing on improving your GPU, CPU memory, and RAM. The i5 processor is solid for most tasks, and having a 2x4 RAM should suffice until you upgrade to DDR4. It would be helpful to know your current RAM capacity. Your setup includes a Gigabyte Extreme X58 with an Intel Core i7 at 3.8GHz, an Intel SSD X25 of 120GB, a Western Digital Volciraptor 300GB HDD, and 6GB of Cosair 3-channel RAM. PowerColor LCS HD6990 is also installed.

I own the Crucial Ballistix Tactical RAM and it has been functioning smoothly for a year. It's a bit pricier, but it operates at low voltage (1.35 v.) and low casing (Cl8.0). Great choice!

Alpha3031 :
Additional inquiries about alternative uses and budgeting.
Considerations include 3D AutoCad rendering, heavy CPU usage, Reiviera-pre simulation, Quartus II Synthesis with high memory demand.
Budget-wise, there is flexibility to select a core i7.

The reason I picked these was because I heard they were reliable and stable. But I only have some info on them, so there might be better options available.

Could you clarify if you're asking about needing fast memory in general or specifically for a certain context?

Do you require quick access to data as well? I believe that's a matter of cost. The quicker it is, the better it would be.
