Based on my understanding, this depends on whether the memory is managed by an Intel or AMD system. For Intel, you'd generally place it in slot 1 followed by slot 3 (unless the manual specifies differently). With AMD, it's usually slot 2 then slot 4, again unless the manual indicates otherwise.
