purchased 10 and 40gb nics from eBay at lower prices. also found several affordable rj45 10gb single-nic cards priced below $100.

Based on my observations, standard copper cables usually offer less than 1ms latency locally, which means even with high-end gaming reflexes you probably wouldn’t feel a change. This doesn’t stop you from enjoying the benefits like greater distance and reduced interference. Just keep in mind that using transceivers with fiber optic cables might increase costs beyond what you expect.

Remote gaming actually requires minimal bandwidth and latency isn’t a big issue. Most delays stem from encoding and decoding the stream. You might find a 10GbE NIC for around twenty dollars on eBay.
