Mostly, developers don’t create games at 1080p resolution; they adjust them for display sizes. The particles are often rendered at higher quality but then scaled down to fit our screens.

It's been a while since 1080p became standard, and it won't be long before it's not an option anymore—even in newer titles you can still revert to 720p.

Most games still offer 800x600 resolution. It seems unlikely this will change anytime soon.

I continue using cs:go at 1360x1024 with 4:3 scaling. It’ll be slow because I can handle all games, even at 800x600.
