You were experiencing issues with file transfers due to a free sync service. After a while, you stopped the process and restarted your computer. Now the 4 TB drive isn't working at all, and Windows reports it as not initialized. Disk Management shows the device as missing, and Device Manager lists it as unknown. Attempts to uninstall or reinstall haven't resolved the problem, and Crystal Disk Info isn't loading.

Consider using another SATA port or cable, verify power connections to the disk, and try a different machine. It appears the drive may have stopped working.

It’s a solid set of suggestions. The vehicle is around 8 years old but seems to have used under 10 hours overall. I removed it from a portable case, set it up, and started it this morning. It’s a WD red model. I transferred roughly 1 TB of data tonight and it’s gone.

Unused hard drives tend to fail more often than those in regular use. Movement aids motors and actuators, ensuring lubricant stays properly distributed.

Well, she seemed to have had a bit more time than expected. She came back online using another SATA port, but the overall system wasn’t thrilled. It took a while to boot up and respond properly. Thanks for all the help. Earlier, I thought about how a drive failure might look with all this software around. It was pretty unrealistic, honestly. Luckily it was just a backup drive and I didn’t lose anything important.
