Mobo: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Gaming Motherboard, GPU MSI GTX 1080 gaming X8, CPU 5700x RAM CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (2x16GB), DDR4 3600 PC4-28800, PSU AX760 Corsair SSD, Samsung 990 1TB SSD, and a 500GB SATA HDD. The 2TB HDD is from Seagate – probably not relevant to my problems. I recently had a Discord chat with my friend, then suddenly the PC shut down. My Corsair RAM sticks were still lit when I pressed and held power off. When I restarted, nothing happened and there were no diagnostic lights. Only the case fans flickered briefly. I started troubleshooting: 1) Unplugged all peripherals, removed one RAM stick, took out the GPU and tried booting again. Posted at least. (Can't confirm – no GPU and no integrated GPU in the 5700x). 2) Swapped the second RAM stick and posted. RAM seems fine. 3) Re-seated the GPU, but nothing changed. 4) Placed GPU in a different PCIe slot and tried again. 5) Removed 8 and 6-pin pins from the GPU – it worked. 6) Connected only the 8-pin cable. Posted. 7) Connected only the 6-pin, didn't post. 8) Thought something was wrong with the PSU because it's modular; I moved the cable to another slot and went through steps 3-7, still no luck. Now I'm worried before spending money on a new GPU, I need to verify this one is faulty. Should I look for another power cable? Any idea what might be causing this? The GPU lights up even when the 8 or 6-pin cables aren't connected. Is it dead? 9) Any other tips would be appreciated. I don’t have a spare PSU to test. Help would be greatly appreciated. I’m not in a position to buy a GPU right now. Please let me know if there’s any hope, lmao.

It looks like you're using the 6-pin cable. If you need a different one, ensure it matches the same power supply. You might also consider swapping the GPU with a friend to test compatibility across systems. Would you like to try that?

Hey, I hope so. Everyone around me uses iPads. I’m planning to hit Facebook for a shot and check if anyone’s online.

I also used my old motherboard with CPU and RAM and faced the same problem Big Grin. The old board could display codes – it showed 62, VGA solid white LED. Maximus viii hero board + 6700k. I think the graphics card might have a power delivery issue.
