It seems the M.2 NVMe SSD is repeatedly losing connection.
Hello, I’m facing an issue with my M.2 NVMe SSD (GP-GSM2NE3100TNTD, Gigabyte 1TB version). The main concern is that the drive disconnects unexpectedly. When I power off my PC and unplug the power cable, it works again. I’ve scanned the drive using HD Tune and seen no errors. It also functions properly on other computers. Could this be related to my motherboard? I’ve tested both of my motherboards’ M.2 slots and found no differences. My system specs are as listed, and I’m hoping someone can offer a solution or share similar experiences. Thank you ahead of time.
In your profile you might consider switching your PCIe branching to 2x8 or 4x4. Ensure your BIOS is current. Verify related NVMe drivers are up to date. I’m aware I’m exploring the edge of what’s possible, but I own a Ryze R5 2600, RX 580 Red Devil OC, 1TB 500GB, SATA SSDs, a 1TB NVMe M.2 drive, a Bluetooth/WiFi adapter in my X4 slot, plus 32GB RAM and a 550W PSU. I’ve had random shutdown problems until I lowered my CPU voltage from overclocking. Perhaps that 550W unit is testing the limits. Remember, reserve power matters, but set your power levels to optimal. https://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-...on-your-pc
I experienced the same problem before and only had a temporary solution. The main issue was poor contact between the M.2 slot and the SSD, causing disconnections. After removing the M.2 card and reinserting it, I repeated the process several times. It seems the only way to resolve this is to return it for an RMA and request a replacement motherboard.
Hello, I'm dealing with a 500GB 970Evo NVMe M.2 SSD (2280) that keeps disconnecting. I've tried swapping slots and clearing the drive multiple times. It usually works around 109°F under load, but the OS isn't installed. The drive seems to need reinstalling each time it drops out. CrystalDiskInfo shows a "caution" with "Health Status" and "Available Spare." So I replaced it with a new WD Blue 500GB SN570 NVMe SSD. Within an hour of use, the same issues returned almost immediately—only a slight drop to 91°F. The difference appears to happen during reboots; after a restart, the health status goes back to "100%Good" (for WD only), but then crashes when gaming or using Steam. All drivers are up to date, except for chipset drivers version 3.10.22.706. I checked the Asus official site—BIOS has Fastboot disabled with UEFI boot enabled and a self-test option that's extended. Controller & Namespace settings are all set (PASS). Specifications include Windows 10 PRO: Version 21H2, ASUS ROG STRIX B-550 E Gaming, MSI RX-580 GamingX 8G, X2 kits with DDR4 3200MHz, and a few other components like an Alu alloy heatsink with fan, PCIe x1 USB 3.0, and SSDs. The PSU is an EVGA 600W GD series with 80+Gold certification. I also have internal breakout boards for USB 2.0 and an ODD. Everything seems fine except the RAM DOCP is enabled, so no changes needed otherwise. Any suggestions?
Have you resolved it or is the issue still present? I’ll attempt it again using a different brand of M2 this evening.
I accessed the compartment, added a cooling pad over the NVME interface. Then I placed an additional heat sink beside it since it remained excessively warm. Now it can handle 1TB continuously at full capacity without issues. However, this isn't completely accurate. A new concern has arisen—it's less convenient to transport.
