The installation may be affected by how your SSDs are partitioned. You have two drives—250GB with Windows and 500GB for extra storage, which you reduced by 200GB for Ubuntu. This could influence the update process. *Both are GPT* formats.

Can you give us a 'picture' with gparted for the 500GB drive? Storage partition should be at end of drive and designated "Do Not Use" when installing your 'buntu or put all windows files on the first drive or move them later, if desired, after the Linux install. And why not wait for 22.04?

I’m not installing Ubuntu yet and I’m planning to try it later. I thought about updating 21.10 now or reinstalling, which should take a short time (when it’s available). The GParted image shows it might be attempting to install on a 1.02 MiB version?

/dev/sdb refers to the second SSD, which is essential for understanding your Linux installation path. You should be aware of this to explore all available options. If you only need to install on /dev/sda, additional steps are required for your partitions.

I unplugged the device for setup. Eventually, I installed it by skipping the update download step and performed a clean shutdown of the Windows computer (shutdown -s -t 00).
