it only powers up briefly
Hello, I'm trying to figure out if your motherboard is dead or if the CPU is the issue. Your PC won't turn on, but when you press the power button, the fan spins for a second and then it shuts down. You've already tried fixing things like changing power supply, reseating RAM, running processcor, resetting CMOS, and testing on a bench. Now, when you remove the processor, it starts shutting down again. Can someone help me understand what's happening?
This response didn’t provide much detail, so we’re unable to assist further.
Hi there, I see you're setting up a new system. It sounds like you're trying to upgrade your PC with a few components. Just to clarify, you mentioned having an I3 4130 M-series gaming motherboard with 8GB RAM, a GTX 750 GPU, and a 500W PSU. You're also using a Cooler Master 500W PSU and have some questions about the RAM setup—specifically, why it only turns on with one stick but not two. Have you checked if your RAM is properly seated in the slots? Also, make sure the BIOS settings allow dual-channel or overclocking if needed. Let me know if you want more details!
For two sticks, aim for slots A2 and B2 or the second and fourth positions on the CPU. If this doesn’t work, place one stick into slot A1, the top slot, and attempt a BIOS update. Once updated, test the memory in slots A2 and B2 to see if it functions. If issues persist, return the board for warranty support.
When you say it boots, can Windows be installed? Is the system stable? When testing both USB ports, does it just start without a display, with fans running continuously, or does it power on and then shut down in one second? I’d also check the CPU socket. Are there any bent pins? It seems like short circuit protection is engaging.
Only installing one drive doesn’t cause issues; it works fine for Windows. Adding another drive prevents booting completely. Testing RAM one at a time helps, and the CPU pins look normal. Did anyone else think about whether the motherboard or CPU might be the problem? I don’t have any spare parts to test.
