I faced several uncertain problems with my computer (it turned out to be a dead GPU) and considered erasing my SSD. It’s an R5 3600 with an RX590 series system, connected to an old 2C/4T APU-based OptiPlex. My goal was to boot from USB, but I didn’t verify the BIOS settings. Instead, before I could halt it, it loaded to the desktop with my AMD builds installed. Now I’ve returned the SSD to the AMD Desktop, checked it and reinstalled the GPU drivers. Performance remains consistent in games, benchmarks, etc. However, in everyday tasks like browsing or basic work, I notice occasional stutters—rarely reported by FPS tools but still noticeable, especially in demanding games such as VRChat that tax single-core performance. The likely cause is something that happened during the Windows 10 installation process when switching between computers.

Issues aren't the problem; poor drivers are likely responsible for the stuttering.

I thought that was likely, but I’m curious if something unusual might have occurred with the registry or from using a different hardware setup temporarily. I’ve been using a computer for almost a month, and these problems started recently. Yesterday another strange event happened, though it’s hard to say what caused it. I tried plugging in a blank USB flash drive into the 3.0 port, but the computer would shut down immediately when inserted or removed, then restart after reinsertion. It went through about four full shutdowns. After reformatting the drive and moving some files over, it stopped acting up. Now that I reformatted it and went through the format again, it’s working fine. I’m still unsure if Windows is involved, but it seems like the weird crashes got worse when I changed the drive type. Hope this clears things up before I need to reinstall everything.

Examine the issue with the event viewer and possibly other tools.

That wasn't on my radar, but it's a solid concept.
