Hello everyone, I just upgraded my GPU from the 1050 Ti to an RX 570 Nitro Plus and noticed a noticeable improvement. The main issue I’m facing is that the RX 570 isn’t reaching its full potential. I’ve tried three different games, but performance remains around 50% even with maximum settings, no cap on FPS, and VSync turned off. I usually get about 80 FPS, which is still below my target of 150+. On other titles like Mass Effect: Andromeda, usage is higher but not at its peak. My CPU stays low (around 30%), and both CPU and GPU temps hover near 60%. I’ve shared some benchmark results from my games, but they match what other RX 570 owners report. My setup includes an i3-8100, 8GB RAM, 500W power supply, Deepcool 2 HDD, and I’m using the official specs from userbenchmark.com. It seems my 8GB RAM might be the bottleneck—I’ve ordered two more to wait for delivery, but games like Borderlands 2 and Dota 2 are quite old and shouldn’t cause this problem. Why can’t I utilize 90% of my GPU in older titles?
Hey thanks for the reply, but shouldnt i recive the same bottleneck in andromeda, and on the dota 2 screen on msi not 1 core is beigb used 100%
You can observe this in the initial screenshot, where just one core is active. From what I understand, the 8100 doesn't perform well with a single core. This is probably why it isn't being utilized heavily in older games—these were designed for less powerful hardware with fewer cores
Consider GPU or CPU metrics differently. Instead of checking usage stats, try measuring actual performance. Use a benchmark game with Dota’s 235 FPS setting. Adjust graphics to low and compare FPS again. Consistent low numbers suggest CPU limits. If FPS spikes significantly, GPU might be the issue.
The numbers on the menu differ from what you're seeing in-game. At 240 FPS, your GPU load stays steady, but when you raise the resolution to 2K, usage jumps about 10%. This is typical for newer titles—like the SS I shared, it's around 97% usage, though it can dip to lower levels like 80%. On high settings, you're usually near 90 FPS, and lowering the settings helps you get more frames.
Because each game interacts with the system differently, some are better optimized than others. I believe the issue might be related to the CPU rather than the GPU—just seems like the most probable cause. A good example is a game where only one core runs at 75%, yet I’m only achieving around 600 FPS. Nobody knows for sure, but other titles definitely make full use of my hardware. For instance, the game is a Tomb Raider anniversary title. Also, it appears there’s no strict frame cap; sometimes the CPU/GPU load stays similar while FPS spikes to about 630 fps.

It’s typical when the CPU is under strain, which is often the case. The CPU handles the frames while the GPU creates them. When the CPU reaches its limit—especially with multiple cores—it can’t send the GPU more frames to process right away. This causes performance to drop temporarily. Ideally, you want the GPU to be busy and the CPU idle, resulting in smoother gameplay. Your 1050 might have handled it, but a newer card usually needs a faster CPU and more RAM, though the latter won’t solve the core problem.
