It happens when a GPU fails after a single use and stops functioning the following day.
Hi, I recently purchased an FE 3070 from FB Marketplace. It functioned properly during testing and when I met the seller. I performed stress tests and used it for a while without issues. The next morning, after restarting my PC, the monitor went dark and displayed no signal. I rebooted but still had no connection. I attempted to clear the CMOS battery, verified all power connections, and tried various PCIE slots without success. The card worked fine one day and stopped the following. I've used different cables, HDMI, and displays but nothing changed. Any suggestions?
Hey there, do you have another machine you could test with the 3070? Maybe a different GPU to try in your current setup? Consider doing a stripped-down build—remove all components and test on carpet or cardboard. You might be amazed at how often it works again. If the system responds, check Event Viewer, Windows Logs, and look for recent crashes or errors around the time of failure. Those entries can help pinpoint the issue, though the GPU is usually the most likely suspect.
I just checked it with an old GTX 1080 and it works, but the 3070 could be faulty.
You're wondering if the 3070 will work again. It's possible, but it depends on the situation. When you had the 1080 in, checking the event viewer at that moment might have shown something.
It's common for components like CPUs, RAM, GPUs and graphics cards to fail suddenly rather than deteriorate gradually. It's unlikely the seller would have anticipated the failure. The best immediate step is to visually inspect the card for signs of damage such as burned, cracked or swollen parts. You can compare it with a known working model online. Videocardz is an excellent starting point for this comparison. You might also consider fully removing the cooler, cleaning the card with Isopropyl Alcohol, and reapplying thermal paste and pads before reassembly. It could be worth a try. Have you tested the card in another system?
