Hey everyone, im far from new from PC building but never have I had an issue like this. My System: - CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X - No OC, PBO is OFF - Cooler: bequiet Dark Rock 4 - Motherboard: MSI B550 Gaming Plus - Case has 4x 140mm fans, intake at the front, blow out the back - Room temperature ~26 °C My 5600X is just running super hot under all conditions. - At idle with case side panel open - ~70 °C (see screenshot) - Under load with case side panel open - 90-100 °C, possibly thermal throttling What I tried so far: - Re-paste and re-seat CPU (multiple times with different thermal pastes) - BIOS update - Ryzen Master curve optimizer applied -19 all core offset (not sure of the unit) This is a 65W TDP CPU on a beefy cooler rated for 200W TDP. At some point im wondering if maybe just the SoC thermal sensor is defective on this chip? Thanks for all ideas
Ensure the cooler is securely fastened and all screws are tight. The mx-6 would be a good suggestion.
Consider trying Hwinfo64 for better accuracy. Make sure it's running in darkness and remove or uninstall the MSI center. Check if the cooler is properly sealed. Used sufficient paste. The cooler's fan direction seems front-to-back. Is the GPU mounted vertically? What type of case are you using? Also, did you adjust your Windows power plans recently?
No MSI Center installed – cooler positioned properly, repeated seating confirmed as needed. Paste sufficient. Fan direction verified throughout the setup. GPU placed horizontally as usual. Enclosure is Bequiet Pure Base 600, but this doesn’t affect results since tests use open panels. No power plan active on balanced default.
No, you didn't accidentally insert the Intel screws into the AMD mount.
Yes, there are smaller plastic spacers available for AMD chips.
Cooler installation looks correct, but I was concerned about uneven pressure on the IHS. After reseating it twice and getting consistent results, it seems it was fine.
