Hey everyone, this is my first time sharing here. I upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5800x last year, right after the 5000 series came out. I didn’t know at the time it wasn’t meant for those processors, but I got by with a beta BIOS update (around December). I’ve been thinking if this configuration is actually holding my performance back and if upgrading to something like an X570 makes sense. Any tips would be super helpful.

System specs:
- Processor: Ryzen 7 5800x
- CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212x
- Motherboard: Asus Prime B450 Plus
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3070
- RAM: 16 GB (2×8 GB)
- Storage: Corsair Vengeance 2133MHz, 256 GB Crucial SSD, 1 TB Crucial SSD, Western Digital Blue HDD

New BIOS updates are ready for your motherboard, enhancing Ryzen efficiency even with 5000 chips. You won’t be restricting your chip count beyond stock limits, though overclocking won’t be possible. Consider running a Cinebench test and benchmarking against others using the same chip. If your results lag significantly behind peers, upgrading the board might be worthwhile. The Prime B450 Plus isn’t ideal, but it should suffice for everyday tasks.

The motherboard isn't restricting the CPU speed. Your 2133 MT/s RAM is fine, but you should aim for at least 3200 MT/s.

I understand now. The memory at 2133 is a key constraint. A quicker memory would boost performance significantly.

Sure, I was thinking about getting some new RAM while the motherboard issue came up. I'm planning to bring in two 3200MHz 8GB sticks soon.

i looked into the details and wondered if the b450 would really affect my memory performance. i found a decent deal on a 16gb g.skill ripjaws 3600mhz card, but the maximum rated memory speed for the b450 is 3200mhz. does this imply there’s a limit to how fast you can use memory on this card?

Check the memory recommendations for your board. Some kits may function with speeds around 4400 MHz, while most should work at 3600 MHz. Look for the Gskill kit if it appears in the list—it will operate at its supported speed of 3600 MHz.
