You have an HP EliteBook 8560w equipped with an i7 2630QM processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a Quadro 1000M graphics card. It’s intended for everyday use—primarily browsing the web, storing data, and playing light games. Considering your plans, a solid upgrade to a larger storage drive and more RAM could improve performance without breaking the bank. A 1TB SSD paired with 16 GB of RAM would likely enhance speed and multitasking, making it a reasonable investment for your needs. The $150–$200 estimate seems reasonable compared to the potential benefits. Alternatively, if you prefer a new laptop, a $300 model might offer better value overall.

Do you require a 1TB SSD? If you only need it for viewing a 500GB SSD with 8GB of RAM, it’s definitely worthwhile. Cleaning out the dust while it’s open can also be beneficial, and refreshing the CPU and GPU will improve performance.

It looks like the storage and memory specs fit within a budget, though the features might be a bit excessive.

Use a NAS with duplicate storage. Never rely on a single drive for your data, particularly with SSDs that often stop working unexpectedly.

You might want to use external storage instead. Investing $200 in an old laptop doesn't seem worthwhile.
