Hey everyone, I'm thinking about getting the Ryzen 3600X paired with MSI Gaming Plus Max for mainly graphics tasks and a bit of 3D work. Gaming isn't a priority here. I have a RipJaw V 3200mhz CL 16-19-19-39 kit for around $80 CAD plus tax, and NewEgg is offering the 3600mhz version for $106 CAD with shipping included. The 3600 CL16 looks good, but the timing isn't perfect. Given the tight clock speeds and the price, I'm worried about overclocking will be difficult. Maybe lowering the speed on the 3600 could give better timing, but it's unclear if that extra $20 to $25 would make a difference. Also, what's the ideal speed for Zen 2? The chipset supports 3200, and benchmarks suggest basic kits don't see much gain, though some videos claim 3600 offers better value. If I decide to go with the 3600, is it worth the additional cost?

If you haven't opened the 3200 kit, I'd replace it if possible.
The Gaming Plus Max doesn’t include 3600 in its speed list. Checking the MSI Gaming Plus Max specs suggests that 3600 RAM might not be compatible. The Tomahawk Max does list 3600, but you chose to skip it for cost savings.
Good news is that I haven’t started anything yet, so I can return it now.
Usually these speeds are verified to function properly, but it doesn’t mean you should increase RAM beyond what’s tested. There’s no certainty it will work, so consider whether the effort is worthwhile for you.
