Hello! I hope you're doing well. I need some assistance with a technical issue I'm facing. After installing the X299 Designare EX motherboard and an Intel-i7 7800x, my computer has been behaving strangely. This is the second time I've tried it; the first one required a return due to similar problems plus grounding concerns. The supplier claims the CPU passed their tests without any issues.
The crashes seem to occur randomly—often when closing Rainbow Six: Siege in Task Manager or starting up. The only consistent problem is under heavy workloads, such as 4K video with many particle effects or large layered projects. The motherboard has provided me with specific error codes and timestamps:
- D2 - PCH Initialization Error: Occurs when I force quit Rainbow Six in Task Manager
- D4 - PCI Allocation Error: Happens during After Effects rendering or after Windows restart
- 80 - Reserved for OEM Use: Appears when launching the game
These issues also happen while using Photoshop and After Effects simultaneously, especially when trying to apply a brush to an image.
The system tends to freeze and play sound loops repeatedly. Event Manager displays only a Kernel Power Error code 41, but it doesn’t clarify what caused it.
Here are my specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-7800x
- PSU: Seasonic SSR-850FX Focus Plus
- Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 OC Armor (PCIe_16x lane 1)
- Motherboard: Blackmagic Design Decklink Duo 2 (PCIe_16x lane 5)
- Storage: 1x Samsung 960 EVO 500GB, 3x HGST Deskstar 4TB HDDs in RAID 0, 1x Seagate Ironwolf 8TB, 1x Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, 1x Western Digital 500GB 7200rpm
- SSD: Kingston SSDNow 128GB V 100+ (not detected)
- RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT (8 x 4GB modules = 32GB total), stock speed 24000Mhz
BIOS is set to version F4c. I've tried both overclocking and used the OC preset in APP Center at 4,2Ghz. I've already contacted Gigabyte Support, but they're taking a long time to respond.

Focus on separate memory blocks for testing. This is how I would verify performance under random errors.
Great questions! I’d recommend using Memtest86 for checking your RAM health. For a single 4GB stick, it’s typically advised to run around 5 to 10 passes to ensure thorough testing.
Memory not listed in the compatible list works well on Intel. On AMD Ryzen it's a bit riskier, though generally acceptable. Memtest86+ is now available, but it can take a long time to complete. I prefer testing two sticks simultaneously across separate channels, even if it means waiting longer for results. Is this the most recent BIOS version?
Based on the results, only three of six tests passed in Memtest86, which suggests a possible issue with one or more RAM sticks.
This was a mistake on my end; each stick displayed 3.8GB because a bit of RAM was set aside for system operation. I only verified the BIOS settings, not during Memtest. I’m submitting the whole setup to the supplier nearby, just across the street. Gigabyte didn’t help much even with the full issue list... But thanks for your guidance, @Jurrunio – really appreciated! I’ll share the actual problems if anyone else faces the same trouble.
The issue continues despite nearly two weeks of computer support. Their synthetic components caused crashes right after installing an INF driver, and remained unstable for four to five days afterward. Problems began immediately when working in After Effects—first during fullscreen RAM preview and then when closing the application. Although I ran Memtest on every stick, it seems RAM usage might be linked to the instability, as the system freezes during sudden actions that shift resources. Any advice or insights? I’m getting really stressed.
