Issues with Windows applications failing to open or download.
win10 1809 x64 asus z97 deluxe i7 4790k 4.8ghz 32gb ddr3 3ghz rx580 8gb 1500mhz core, 2k mhz mem clock, +6 cv C:/ samsung nvme ssd i believe overclocking won’t solve this, but I thought it might help. Recently I faced the same problem when I shared my original post here. No Windows Store app opens. All my programs are stuck in download mode, the start menu shows a white bar and nothing loads. I can’t use photos, Windows Store, Game Bar, or take screenshots. I’m not sure what to do since I’ve tried everything suggested online—cmd, PowerShell (admin), troubleshooters, etc.—and nothing works. I’ve even taken photos dozens of times a day for work. This is really frustrating. I don’t want to reinstall Windows and lose everything I’ve set up. Please help!
I experienced this once on 8.1 before Windows 10 was released and I didn't want a full reinstall since the process was faulty then. The solution that helped was deleting my Microsoft account from the Windows user and creating a new one. Just log into the new account and transfer your files from Explorer to the new user. It might also be useful to verify if system restore is active, as that could be the simplest way to undo whatever issues occurred. If not, turn it on after you fix the problem so it doesn<|pad|> to occur again.
Perform an in-place upgrade instead of a fresh installation; it should resolve the issue.
I'm not sure about the term "in-place upgrade." Could you clarify what you're referring to?
Install the Windows 10 media creation utility, launch it, choose to upgrade your PC and proceed to the next step. Wait for the preparation to complete, then navigate to the update installation screen and click next. The system will begin installing updates and files, prompting you to accept the terms before continuing. Once ready, you’ll see an installation window offering options—select what to keep and ensure personal files and applications are included. Click install, which will thoroughly refresh and fix your Windows 10, effectively replacing outdated files while preserving your data and apps.
Your Windows 10 version 1809 is fully current, so you should still be able to update it even though it's already up to date.
Execute it by restarting the system or using the method you prefer, either within Windows or another way.
Yes, avoid the latest update 1903 if you prefer the media creation tool for 1809. Microsoft provides both downloads, so simply get the 1809 version from Microsoft and install it in Windows. It works without needing BIOS setup or booting, just run the program directly.
I already have a flash drive and store the installation files there. It’s updating now inside Windows. If it works, you’re a lifesaver! I’ll post the thread once it’s done. Thanks!
