Today I assembled my new PC with these specifications: Ryzen 5600x with stock cooler, Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC (replacing the MSI B550M Pro-VDH Wifi I initially thought caused issues), Corsair Vengence 2x8GB at 3200MHz RAM, MSI RX570 (from a previous build), and Corsair RM650x power supply. After finishing the build, I installed Windows 10 without issues. When I began setting up drivers, I first installed Chrome, then searched for graphics card drivers. I downloaded one but encountered a BSOD. After rebooting, I attempted to install the driver again but faced another BSOD. Now the PC mostly loops, only reaching this stage before restarting or displaying a blue screen. Occasionally it reaches the Windows Recovery screen, but even then it either crashes shortly afterward or after selecting an option. It also triggers a BSOD when using a Windows installer on a USB drive. The error codes I’ve seen include "irql_not_less_or_equal", "kmode exception not handled", and others. Here’s what I’ve tried so far: various drives, SATA ports, cables, USB installers, old power supplies, different RAM sticks in every slot, installing Ubuntu from a USB, Windows 10 on an SSD connected via USB, trying Ubuntu from a Windows 7 CD, swapping motherboards, running MemTest with no errors, replacing the RX570 with an older GTX 660, disabling Secure Boot, and even attempting a Windows 7 installation. I’m now leaning toward a RAM or CPU issue, but since MemTest showed no problems, I suspect the CPU might be the culprit. I plan to get a replacement soon and will ask for more advice if needed.
You might attempt to refresh bios, which can be useful. Sometimes resetting them resolves issues, even though they could contain random data.
I agree you're on the right path. I'd try a different RAM setup first before adjusting the CPU, since RAM is more affordable and simpler to obtain. If a fully new RAM package still doesn't resolve the crashes, it's safer to go ahead and replace the CPU.
In most cases this is a solid step, however, OP has already replaced the motherboard with an entirely new one that is a different make and model with a completely different Bios so resetting it here won't exactly do too much and has technically already been done.
Ya I feel like updating the bios won't be much help but per your ram idea I do have a new pair on its way so maybe that will solve it
It might be. Unless it's your CPU, based on what you've already done, it seems unlikely to be something else.
I think my only option right now is to test the new RAM. If it doesn't work, I'll have to attempt replacing the CPU. Thanks for your assistance!
