Issues with the new CPU during gaming?
I’m experiencing some problems with my new AMD Ryzen 5 5600XT.
A few weeks back, my computer suddenly became very slow. Tasks took around ten minutes each to load, the cursor would freeze and stutter, and overall performance was extremely sluggish. After trying several fixes, I replaced my older 5500 with a 2600 model, which resolved the problem.
I then returned the faulty 5500 to the store and purchased a new Ryzen 5600XT using the credit they provided. I received it today and installed it. Unfortunately, I encountered the same issues right away—my PC is running poorly, especially when gaming.
Initially, games worked well but then stuttered, became much slower, and eventually crashed within about ten minutes. All games seem to behave this way, making them difficult to play.
Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
are the temperatures of the CPU and GPU normal? did you reapply the cooler before installing it? which cpu cooler are you using? have you reinstalled or reset windows after the new CPU? were the GPU drivers just updated? what is the current BIOS version—should be F66g?
I just started up Baldur's Gate 3 to check the temps and I've been playing for a while now without issue. I don't know if this is a fluke or if the issue has resolved itself or what, but here's the info requested anyway just in case you can give me any advice:
The GPU seems to stay at 34°C. The CPU is at around 45°C normally. I noticed it get up to 85°C when it had the issue and up to 96°C now.
I'm using the AMD Wraith Stealth Cooler it came with. The cooling fan had paste applied to it.
I have not reinstalled or reset Windows.
I last installed the newest GPU driver about two weeks ago when I first had the issue with my 5500.
My BIOS version is F66g.
I don't think there was foil on it. I lightly touched the pasted section and some stuck to my finger.
I reset the BIOS by taking out the battery for a short time. I'm not sure what you mean by jumper cirCMOS.
The attachment is correctly positioned and the case is rotating. It's a Segotep Halo 6 Plus ATX MidTower Gaming Case featuring four fans—two on the front and one at the back—all operating continuously.
This jumper is used to reset the BIOS configuration and restore CMOS values to their factory settings. To reset CMOS, touch the two pins with a metal object for a few seconds. Remember to turn off your computer and unplug the power cord before doing this. After restarting, access BIOS Setup to apply factory defaults or adjust settings as needed.
