Issues with the mouse and touchpad are unusual.
Issues with the mouse and touchpad are unusual.
Problem
- When I click and drag with the mouse, I struggle to complete the action fully. This complicates using apps that depend heavily on mouse or drag/drop operations. For instance, dragging a file from an explorer folder into Notepad causes it to close before being opened.
I can only drag items for a short duration—just a few seconds or a few pixels on the screen.
- The same problem occurs with right-click actions. I try using gestures with the right click but can't use them fully.
- This also happens with touchpad input, creating similar issues with both mouse and touchpad.
What I understand is not an issue: my actual mouse works fine after switching to a new one. When using Citrix VPN into a work environment, I've tried various solutions:
System file checker full scan
Windows update and latest drivers installed
New mouse and driver reinstallation
I'm using a Windows 11 machine, upgraded from Windows 10 several months ago. The problem began about a week ago.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
Thank you in advance
Update your post with complete hardware details for the mice.
In Windows (WIN + I), navigate to Mouse settings through Devices.
Also review Ease of Access Settings (scroll down for mouse options).
You’ll find several mouse-related configurations available under "Additional Mouse Options."
Take a look before making any adjustments.
If you decide to modify something, alter just one element at a time.
Remember to record the original setting and your changes for reference.
Thank you for your reply. Updated mouse information is at the bottom of this post, but as I mentioned, I think this isn't about the mouse itself since using a different one didn't solve the issue. Also, when I connect to another machine via VPN, the problem disappears and both the mouse and touchpad function properly. The first mouse is a Tecknet Wireless model, and the second is a TeckNet Bluetooth mouse 3000 dpi.
Agreed that if the issue arises with two different mice functioning well in one setting but not in another, it suggests the problem isn’t related to the mice themselves.
Regarding the VPN, you referred to "Citrix going into work" in your earlier message.
Here are some notes:
Security options to consider:
- https://www.dnsstuff.com/vpn-vs-remote-d...considered more secure than RDP
- https://www.securelink.com/blog/wha... RDP and VPN serve,is open-ended and unsecure
Would you like more details about your setup and the network connection?
Thank you again. I wanted to clarify what I intended when connecting via a VPN to an office computer—everything functions properly, indicating the problem isn't with the mouse. This was an extra point to ensure the issue lies elsewhere, possibly in hardware or software on my own machine.
What type of VPN is available?
Which method should I follow when using my home computer to connect to the company system?
Is there a specific process for accessing the company computer, or do I skip the company name, login details, or passwords?
What steps are involved in getting to the work computer, and where do drag and drop issues start?
Have I talked to the IT support about this issue?
Thank you again.
Please disregard the VPN part.
The problem is on a local computer.
Mainly related to the computer itself, with issues in selecting text properties, dragging anything, or using gestures.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I've tried various mice and run all diagnostics.
Maybe there are faulty or damaged Windows files. Consider running "sfc /scannow" and "dism".
