You recently acquired an external DVD drive, the LG SP80NB80, to use with your Dell Precision 3630 Tower running Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS. Despite playing music CDs smoothly, the drive isn’t recognized when inserting DVDs, either in standard mode or "TV Connectivity." Since you’re on a Linux system, you didn’t install the provided software from the CD, “CyberLink Media Suite 10 for DVD.” You managed to install libdvd-pkg after a few tries, but it didn’t help. VLC fails to play any of three DVDs when you manually select them. Someone could suggest alternatives or point you toward a helpful community member. (I’m not a gamer, developer, or programmer.) Thanks for the info https://www.lg.com/us/burners-drives/lg-...#pdp_specs

I rarely use Linux, but it might relate to missing proper encryption for protected DVDs. I discovered a link below about a similar problem where the solution was installing an extension pack for VLC. I’m unsure if this will fix your issue. Link: https://askubuntu.com/questions/423879/v...rnal-drive

Thanks for the update. Using VLC Media Player and testing different disk inputs helped me find an unexpected workaround for playing DVDs on both Ubuntu and Windows (my dual-boot setup). This issue is now resolved. I’ll address another one in a future post.
