Are you close to a MicroCenter? They offer the i5 at a reasonable price and provide attractive package deals.
I have identical CPU and a 760, achieving steady 50-60 second runs with near-maximum settings. Are you applying frame limiting in Precision or Afterburner? I experimented with it on DA-I, but after some time it would significantly reduce clock speeds and cause frame drops on DA in particular. Look out for throttling as well as temperatures; DAI can often push your GPU to its limits. EDIT: Recently I realized CPU temperatures are well above 60°C... That’s concerning, even reaching 73°C at one point. According to what I know, the typical safe operating temperature for a 6300 is around 64°C, and your temps are far beyond that, especially during frame dips.
Typically I don't have afterburner or hwmonitor active. Usually only Nvidia shadowplay for the FPS counter, Skype, and sometimes a web browser are running. What are you using? Edit: Ignored your comment about the Current rig. Considering Corsair Hydro H55, Antec Kühler 650, Cooler Master Seidon 120V v2, and a NZXT H230 case. Saved money on the case when purchasing this PC.
I observed the situation and checked for signs of CPU throttling due to overheating. The temperature reading on 73 is notably elevated.
Yes. At 73°F the FX 6300 will throttle. It's meant to stay under 62°C. You might need to adjust your cooler settings. My FX 6300 is running at 3.5 GHz and never exceeds 51°C even when loaded. I'm also using a Hyper 212.
Clean it up this week and then get the case and the new cooler together next week.
