I have a PS4 controller linked to my PC through USB, and my PC case has two distinct auxiliary ports—one for audio and one for microphone. Connecting my headset to the PS4 controller causes the audio to be very faint while the Windows volume stays at maximum. I can still hear everything, but it’s extremely quiet, and it’s becoming exhausting. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

It seems you require additional power for your selection of headphones. An alternative to the PS4 controller could be this: Sound Blaster X1 Hi-res Super X-Fi External USB DAC and Headphone Amplifier.

Yes, I understand you're looking for a more affordable or free option.

I selected this DAC/Amplifier because of its stronger performance compared to others.
There are more affordable models, but their sound quality might not match the PS4 controller's.
But if you're aware that your computer's front panel connections function better or if you need to use a different audio device that doesn't fit the headset's TRRS cable, you can fix this using the UGREEN Headphone Splitter.

I'm sure you're a bit tight on cash due to the headset purchase.
Unless you didn't spend a lot on the headset, the PS4 controller might not be the reason for the poor sound quality.
