My brother was planning to build a system using my spare parts. I offered to make one from them to save money. When trying Windows 7 or 8, the setup keeps saying it can't create a new partition or find an existing one. The log files might help. I installed it via USB. Here are the specs in case they assist:
- MB: Asus B75M-PLUS
- CPU: i5 2500k
- RAM: 8GB
- GPU: HyperX R9 280
- HDD: 1TB WD Blue

You could link the HDD to your device and generate a partition via Disk Management (press win-key, then X, then select Disk Management).

Hey AngryBullbog, have you checked if the drive works in another system and transfers files correctly? Did you run any diagnostics to check its health? I suggest using the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool. Here’s a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=I1oixq. Also, what method are you using for OS installation—thumb drive, original CD, etc.? You might want to try a different installation disk or make a bootable thumb drive. Clearing the CMOS could also be helpful. Captain_WD.

If the excellent guidance from Captain_WD isn’t working, consider using Microsoft DISKPART to remove all partitions before reinstalling the operating system. Good luck!

I checked all the suggestions you mentioned, but nothing fixed the issue. Someone on a forum suggested trying a different USB from a Kingston drive might help. I looked up more details and found that in many cases, switching to a Kingston pen drive resolved the problem. It’s worth considering if buying another one is worthwhile or if it was just a coincidence. Your drive model is Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB.

Convert the USB into a bootable device. If this fails, attempt to install the operating system on the same drive using the same thumb drive but on another machine. This may help determine if the issue lies with the drives or elsewhere in your system. Captain_WD.
