Hello! I am attempting to upgrade my cousin's dinosaur computer, since they are unable to buy a new one due to financial restraints. I was told a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU would be compatible with my motherboard, but when I plug the CPU in the fans all go max speed and there is no output. But when plugging in the previous CPU the computer runs just fine. Is there something I need to do for this to work? Do I need to modify the BIOS, and if so, how? Many thanks in advance.

The chipset isn't compatible. The motherboard will require an upgrade.

Intel 945G supports Core2 Duo but not Core2 Quad. The ThinkCentre M52 appears to lack BIOS support for any Core2 processors. The optimal CPU choice would be a Pentium D.
