It reached peak boost speed consistently at 100% even when idle with less than 5% CPU usage in Windows. I needed to access the registry to enable the boost power management feature and turn off the boost setting. Now it stays at its base frequency all the time, even when idle. It seems like the processor is working harder than necessary. The power plan is set to performance mode.

Adjust the power plan to balanced for better stability. Both your 7700x and your system are running at a steady 5.5ghz with performance mode enabled. It’s fine and won’t cause any issues.

CPU was running at high temperatures around 70–80°C while idle, checking emails and sitting in a comfortable 55–65°C range. At 90° it reached the TJ.Max threshold.

I replaced my HP AIO 120 MM cooler with a Noctua U9S featuring two 92mm fans, disabled the Boost mode, and now my temperatures stay below 65°C.

We track performance using tools beyond Task Manager, as it often misrepresents low and idle times across multiple cores. HWiNFO’s "Effective Clockspeed" and Ryzen Master provide accurate real-time insights.

I use HWinfo, Ryzen Master, Task Manager, Omen Gaming hub, Core Temp, and MSI Afterburner. They all show the same data. Also, SpeedFan isn’t picking up my case or CPU fans.

This setting appears to be typical for Ryzen processors since the first release. You should adjust it in your BIOS or system settings, but you can keep defaults unless you have a specific reason.

In the power plan options for Balanced or Performance, there’s an advanced section for power settings. You’ll find CPU power management there, where you can adjust the CPU Boost behavior to suit your needs.
