I usually play Minecraft. After 10 to 20 sessions of launching and closing it, my RAM hits 99% even when all programs are off (I have 16GB). That forces me to restart my PC because it starts acting oddly. It’s not a big deal to reboot, but keeping multiple apps running makes it frustrating. I’m wondering if anyone knows about software that can clear leftover game files from memory so I don’t need to restart? Thanks.
Mate, I only have Malwarebytes and an Apache server installed, the latter just for testing. I’ve checked it all thoroughly. It’s just a game. My PC runs nonstop 24/7 with no problems. I kept it running nonstop for ten days straight without restarting two weeks ago—since I didn’t play Minecraft then. The highest RAM usage I saw was 4-5 GB. Only when I start Minecraft does the usage spike. Here’s what happens: Reboot – 1GB used (idle) Play Minecraft – 6GB Exit Minecraft – 2GB (idle) Start Minecraft again – 7GB Exit Minecraft – 3GB (idle) Start Minecraft again – 8GB Exit Minecraft – 4GB (idle) Start Minecraft again – 9GB Exit Minecraft – 5GB (idle) Start Minecraft again – 10GB Exit Minecraft – 6GB (idle) Start Minecraft again – 11GB Exit Minecraft – 7GB (idle) And so on until I have to reboot because the PC stops working. The numbers aren’t precise, but the pattern is clear. The problem is that memory gets allocated but not fully released, so it’s hard to get RAM freed automatically or manually.
Usually people rely on task manager; for Minecraft it’s Java running in RAM. You can close Java in task manager quickly. If that doesn’t help, I’d be concerned.
The Java application has finished executing. You can see in Task Manager how much memory each process consumes. When you sum up the memory usage of all processes, the overall figure is significantly less than the real amount being utilized.
