I’m preparing to list my computer today. Over the past day I’ve been trying to reinstall Windows 8.1, but the process has been tricky. A USB drive containing Windows was created successfully, though the installation got interrupted last night—my drives were all formatted. I received a warning about an issue and was told to restart. Because everything was formatted, I was left with just the USB, which I tested on another machine and confirmed it’s fine. Now I’m connecting it to my computer and entering BIOS. The only listed drives are generic ones labeled 7453mb, but when I attempt to boot from one, a black screen appears with a flashing underscore prompt. It won’t respond to any input. This situation is holding me back from selling the unit properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It seems the USB flash drive setup is damaged. Consider using the Windows disk instead. If you possess the ISO file, move it onto the USB drive again.
