I recently purchased two 8Gb chips for my computer. I already had 16GB installed using four 4Gb chips. After swapping two of the 4Gb chips for the 8Gb ones, the machine failed to boot. The mouse and keyboard lights didn’t activate, and the screen remained black. When I tried one 8Gb chip, it worked, so I added the remaining four 4Gb chips. My question is why these new 8Gb chips don’t work—they’re from the same brand and offer higher speed per chip.

Occasionally you may need to reset the CMOS during memory configuration changes. It’s worth giving it a try.

I tend to think I have a solid grasp of PCs, but I might be overestimating myself. Should I simply reset and check the BIOS or search for a clear button?

Check the specifications of the RAM. Ensure compatibility with your motherboard. A proper system scanner can recommend the optimal RAM and its maximum supported capacity for your PC.

I own four 4x4 gigabit VRAM modules, each DDR4 3000MHz, and I purchased two identical 8-gigabit units from the same manufacturer. The only difference is their size in gigabytes.

Ensure a battery is connected to your motherboard. Disconnect the power supply using the switch, then remove the old battery and reinstall the new one after 20 minutes. The PC should retain enough charge to maintain the CMOS for a short period.

No, you can't use those chips together. The 2x8 gigabit chips and 2x4 gigabit chips are designed for different configurations.

You can reset the CMOS without connecting the RAM, just make sure to turn off the power supply and disconnect the cable.

Turn off the power supply, unplug the PSU, remove the battery, let it sit for 20 minutes, then install the two 8-gigabit chips and two 4-gigabit chips, and finally power it back on. Wait another 20 minutes. Appreciate the help!
