I just set up my 5.1 audio system and noticed the rear speakers were producing odd sound quality. You could still hear the music, but voices came out very faint or completely missing, as if filtered through strong noise suppression. I tried other speakers or moved it to the side port, but only the front and subwoofer/center speakers worked well in 5.1 mode. When I switched audio to mono in settings, all speakers functioned properly again. I don’t need any adapters—every port on my motherboard supports a full 5.1 surround setup.
My suggestion is a TRS (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) incompatibility.

I modified my post to add hardware details. I don't think it's necessary to specify the speakers since the issue happens with any speaker using any cable if connected to the RS or SS port. I've tested various cables.
