Issues with power and current control on the i9 11900KF processor
Hello everyone, I recently purchased a pre-built system because I didn’t want to assemble it myself. I’m experiencing power throttling issues, and I believe the problem lies with my motherboard. It’s a Gigabyte H510M-K, and I think the 11900KF chipset is too demanding for it. My question is whether I can adjust voltages in BIOS or if I should consider replacing the motherboard altogether. I’ve recorded a video using Intel Extreme Utility while running a Cinebench test; you can view it here. If you need further details, just let me know—I wasn’t sure what factors were most important beyond that.
All the 11th generation models failed due to using a 10nm design and scaling it up to 14nm. The results were disappointing and significantly inferior to the previous 10th generation version. The 12th and 13th generations performed much better, offering substantial improvements over the 11th.
It seems I might have erred, but checking my old PC shows this was a solid upgrade at a reasonable cost. The 11th generation performance isn’t too much of an issue since I previously had a Ryzen 5 1600X. What I’m trying to decide is whether I can resolve the power problem or if it’s best to order a B560M board instead.
You mentioned the possibility of sending it back for a higher version, around 13600K.
Thanks to the Dutch law, I have 14 days to send it back and receive my refund. I’ll take action and won’t be slacking. Appreciate all the guidance!
