Issues with power affecting my Dell Precision T3500
Hello, a few days back I purchased a faulty Dell Precision T3500. The seller mentioned a defective power supply or a PB10 error for those familiar with Dell Workstations. I took apart the entire system to swap out the power supply with a 500 Watt 80 Plus gold unit from Lenovo. Upon closer examination, I discovered moisture inside the case. Being meticulous, I found a pin on one of the 24-pin ATX connectors was damaged, likely causing a short circuit due to the dampness. We attempted to repair the mainboard by clearing away burnt residue around the affected pin and soldering it properly, ensuring no solder touched adjacent pins. After allowing the components to dry thoroughly—using heat and leaving them at maximum temperature for 24 hours—the unassembled parts were reassembled and the machine was restarted. The same error persisted. Since I need a workstation quickly and affordably, I’m curious if there’s any possibility to salvage this unit. Thank you for your help! I’ll share a photo of the damaged area once I have one. Ed.: My grandfather advised us to replace the pin interior with a copper wire, as the original was missing.
