My setup includes a Ryzen 5 2600X, an Nvidia 2060 GPU (non-S), 32GB RAM, a 500GB SSD, a 1TB HDD, and several high-end fans on a specific case. I've adjusted the BIOS to optimize performance as much as possible. Despite these upgrades, benchmark results from friends and online sources show significant drops in performance—especially noticeable in games like Warzone and Battlefield V. Even at lower settings, I'm struggling to maintain 120fps, often seeing only 90fps or less, and the lag is more pronounced when using certain applications like Discord or Firefox. The issue persists across both gaming and non-gaming tasks. This suggests a possible bottleneck related to thermal throttling, insufficient cooling, or RAM limitations under load.
Did you check for malware or viruses? How much CPU, GPU, and memory are being used when things get busy? A new Windows setup and drivers could help, though it might not be the first choice.
I've used Norton Internet Security through my ISP, but stopped because of how it performs. Now I'm trying Malware Bytes and Windows Defender. So far, this machine hasn't shown any malware. The unusual part is with CPU, GPU, and memory usage—never reach 100% in games, yet performance feels poor. It seems one component always limits speed, probably the CPU, though it sometimes hits around 80% combined with GPU. Games that run smoothly usually use about 50% on each, while those that struggle often stay near 80%. Memory usage stays between 20% and 40%, especially when I'm working hard. When tasks demand a lot of RAM, it can spike to 99%, but that's rare. Most games still function well without major issues, though they don't hit full performance. My GPU usually handles 80% or more in solid games, and even games like Forza perform decently at about 80%. I'm planning a new build for my mother—she needs it for work, not just a hobby. She already has extra components, and I'm adding more storage, upgrading the motherboard from B450 to B550 (PCIe Gen.4), possibly a 3600 chipset now, and looking forward to getting a 5600X later when prices drop. I expect a fresh install, which might reset everything and take some time.
