Issues with PC startup and shutdown (fans running but screen off)
Hello,
after three years of owning a PC, I began encountering issues during startup or shutdown. Sometimes the system freezes while playing games or working. During boot-up, the fans spin nonstop, a blank screen appears, and nothing else happens. Occasionally, the issue resurfaces when turning off the PC—fans continue spinning without stopping. Additionally, it can freeze while using the computer, leaving the screen visible.
System details:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600
BIOS Version: 3.40 (2024/1/19)
Motherboard: ASRock B550M-HDV
RAM: 2x16 GB
I have tried the following solutions:
- Reinstalled Windows
- Re-seated all cables, especially within components like SSD, RAM, GPU
- Changed CMOS battery
- Checked for beep codes and motherboard LED lights (no sounds detected)
- Updated BIOS to the latest stable version
I also consider testing or replacing the power supply unit, CPU, or GPU, and booting without storage drives at least once. The problem only happens occasionally, so I could remove each drive or RAM one by one, restart the PC repeatedly, and claim success—but this seems impractical.
My question is: are there any better options or automated tools that could help resolve this issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you for your assistance.
System details: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, BIOS 3.40 (2024/1/19), ASRock B550M-HDV motherboard. RAM includes two 16 GB modules. For troubleshooting threads, ensure you list full specifications such as CPU cooler, RAM, SSD/HDD, GPU, PSU, chassis, OS, monitor, and note the age of the power supply in addition to its make and model. It's recommended to update the BIOS to the latest stable version and verify that CMOS was cleared after a successful flash.
