Issues with network file access on devices appearing unexpectedly in file managers.
I used the Asus RT-AC87R router and started using the "Network Place (Samba) Share / Cloud Disk" option. Normally I can connect any USB drive to the router through File Manager, but sometimes the storage doesn’t show up at all. I think the problem might be related to Windows 10/11 since I haven’t been able to access it from Android devices before. I’m looking for advice on how to check and fix this issue.
Hello Necro compute, have you attempted to upgrade your Windows setup to the newest release? Alternatively, you might want to navigate to Start > Settings > Network & Internet > Status, scroll to the bottom, tap Network and Sharing Center, select Change advanced sharing settings, expand All Networks, choose Password protected sharing, toggle between enabling and disabling it, then confirm by saving changes. I hope this resolves your issue soon.
Consider pressing the Windows key + R, type optionalfeatures.exe and press Enter. Scroll down to SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support, check the SMB 1.0/CIFS Client option, uncheck SMB 1.0/CIFS Automatic Removal, and uncheck SMB 1.0/CIFS Server. Click OK and restart if asked. Alternatively, shut down all computers and network equipment, disable IPv6, open Windows key + R, select Services, start the "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" services with Automatic (Delayed Start). Enable network discovery in Explorer when prompted, add the machine to your Windows HOSTS file. For further guidance, refer to the provided link. If issues persist, contact Microsoft Support or your PC manufacturer’s support team via their website.
