Issues with MacBook Pro display glitches and repeating beep sounds during startup.
Hello Mac enthusiasts, I'm working on fixing a friend's 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro (Model 1278). Before starting, I noticed that roughly half the time when trying to boot, the system would freeze and play a repeating 3-beep sequence. After some research, I suspected a RAM problem. Initially, just re-seating the modules seemed to help temporarily, but the issue returned. Eventually, I swapped in some reliable RAM from a similar model and it still didn’t work. After a month away, I revisited the machine and discovered another problem: while using it, strange screen distortions appeared (see attached photo), causing the system to lock up completely and trigger a forced reset, followed by the same beeping cycle. I’ve heard of similar situations with Macs that have dedicated graphics, but since this model only has integrated graphics, I’m unsure what to do. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kale04
Does this occur on the boot splash screen (including the one with the apple logo) or in the recovery menu? If yes, it probably points to a hardware problem. If not, consider resetting the NVRAM using online instructions. Another possibility is a corrupted display driver, which you might try reinstalling.
I also saw this with the same model earlier. You can skip to 19:00. It seems very similar.
